Given the importance of meter franking to postal systems in all countries, surprisingly little has
been written about the subject in general and in particular for Sudan. The last significant mention was a number of years years ago in Camel Post detailing some of the items seen and noted. Although Meter Franking was given international approval back in 1922 by the UPU at the Madrid Conference it wasn’t until 1950 that the first meter was installed and used in the Sudan.
